Security Code (CVV2)
This is a three digit number printed on the signature strip of a card that can be used to help identify counterfeit cards. (4 digits on the front with Amex). Shoppers are now requested to submit this data on the payment (it is not possible to mandate this as it is not globally adopted). The Security Code check response is returned as part of the AVS response - see above.
The ultimate aim to is to provide the Merchant with more information so he can make an informed decision whether to fulfil the order or carry out further checks.
